Create your first project

Create a project, add tasks, switch between the board and the list, and bring people in.

GAOwnerExecutiveTeam leadLast updated 5 October 2026

A project holds the tasks for one piece of work, such as a client website or a product launch. This page walks through creating one and adding the first tasks.

You need a role that can create projects. Owners, executives and team leads usually can. If you do not see New Project, ask an owner.

  1. Open Projects in the sidebar.
  2. Select New Project.
  3. Fill in Project Name. Add a Description if it helps people understand the scope.
  4. Under Client, pick a client, add one with New client, or leave Your company for internal work.
  5. Optional: set Type, Status, Priority, Start Date, End Date and Budget under Timeline & Budget.
  6. Optional: turn on Use task keys and set a Prefix (2 to 10 capital letters or numbers). Every task then gets a short ID like PB-184, shown on the board and used in its link.
  7. Optional: under Assign to Team, pick a team. Its people are added to the project.
  8. Select Create Project.

You land on the project’s Overview.

  1. Open the List tab.
  2. Select New task, or select Add a task… at the bottom of the list and type a title.
  3. Fill in what you know: assignee, due date, priority. You can change any of it later.

Each task has its own page with comments, files and history. Share the task’s link, not the list, when you want someone to look at one task.

The project tabs include Board, List, Calendar and Timeline.

  • List shows tasks as rows, good for scanning and bulk edits.
  • Board shows a column per workflow status. Drag a card to move it to the next status.
  • Calendar places tasks on their due dates.
  • Timeline shows the plan as bars over time, including milestones.

All views show the same tasks. Moving a card on the board changes its status everywhere.

People must belong to your organization before you can add them to a project. To invite someone new, see Invite your team.
